Should I make my boyfriend’s mom a birthday present?

I have known my bf’s mom like almost 10 years cause our family are friends. I just started going out with my boyfriend this summer so this is the first time attending his mom’s bday party. I was thinking of making roses out of straws like this picture http://www.etsy.com/listing/71352764/mini-pink-Origami-rose-bouquet?ref=v1_other_2 besides giving her a gift certificate
Just wondering if I should stick to buying her a present and forget about making the roses? I don’t want to seem like I am trying to impress her cause everyone would just buy her gifts.

I think it’s a Lovely idea! It shows you’re creative and an open thinker, and Moms always like that At least it wont rot away, or end up being hidden behind the closet. It shows respect, and is very thoughtful.
