Has anyone ever made Christmas ornaments that are dipped in paraffin?

When I was little, my mom, sister and me made some really pretty Christmas tree ornaments. They were basically like Origami stars, about 3″ tall and were 3D. We dipped them in paraffin and sprinkled them with glitter. They lasted for years and were so pretty. Does anyone know how to make them?
I guess I should have explained that I know how to dip the paper stars, I just don’t know how to make them. Like I said, they were 3D, not flat. The paraffin is what preserved the decorations for so long. I am thinking we used a lightweight, colored paper – not quite tissue paper, but something along those lines. I just can’t remember how we made those little jewels. My family loved them.

I think they were passe about 1890 or so.
