Blooming Origami: $17 Blooming Origami offers easy-to-follow and perfectly logical instructions that enable readers to create twenty-nine different 3-dimensional flowers by folding square origami paper into pentagons, hexagons and octagons. The flowers are presented by season, so, for example, in the spring, readers will learn to make the cherry blossom, dogwood, pansy, violet, sweet, pea, lily-of-the-valley, climbing rose and hydrangea, among others; in summer, the morning glory, clematis, bougainvillea, lily, sunflower and dahlia; in fall, the gentian and chrysanthemum; while the narcissus, camellia, Adonis, tree peony, Kaffir lily and orchid can be found in the winter collection. The flowers themselves require no scissors or adhesive to make. Then with some floral tape and wire, they can be combined into beautiful arrangements, bouquets and even interior decorations. The designs in BloomingOrigami, which are shown in vivid, full-color photographs, are more stylized in the way of traditional Japanese origami flowers. Renowned artist Fumio Inoue’s motto is origami from hand to hand, which describes his mission to pass on to others, by demonstrating with his own hands, his art and ideas. Ever since his childhood in Tokyo, he has been passionate about origami paper folding. In 1970, he began creating innovativedesigns of his own to complement the traditional styles he loved so well. Now, in Blooming Origami, he shares his love for the craft by guiding even less experienced origamists in fashioning these glorious flowers for all seasons. |

Chinese Paper Folding $46.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Chinese Paper Folding, or Zhezhi (pinyin: zhé zhǐ), is the art of paper folding that originated in China. It is the predecessor of origami. The work of Akira Yoshizawa widely popularized the Japanese name “origami”- however, in China, and other Chinese speaking places, the art is referred to by the chinese name, Zhe Zhi. Paper was first invented by Cai Lun in the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. In the 6th century, Buddhist monks carried paper to Japan. The first Japanese origami is dated from this period. Due to political isolation of mainland China until the Qing Dynasty, examples of early zhezhi are rare in comparison to works from the same time from Japan and contemporary Spanish-speaking lands. The first noteworthy book from Japan on the subject was printed in 1797, Sembazuru Orikata (“The Folding of 1000 Cranes”). |

Shadowfolds: Surprisingly Easy-to-Make Geometric Designs in Fabric $14.97 Shadowfolds are a rich blend of traditional motifs expressed in a contemporary style. The technique, pioneered by artist Chris K. Palmer, creates patterns from a single, uncut panel of cloth, using a simple, three-step process. In Shadowfolds, Jeff Rutzky, himself an accomplished and passionate origamist, and Palmer offer detailed and fascinating information about the technique and its origins in both Moorish tile and classic Japanese origami. Palmer first encountered the elaborate mosaics of the Alhambra and became intrigued with learning to translate these patterns into folded paper. He turned for inspiration to the work of Japanese origami masters Tomoko Fuse, Jun Maekawa, Toshikazu Kawasaki and Shuzu Fujimoto, as well as to the great American origami artists Robert Lang and Peter Engel. The transition to working in cloth followed. The flexible property of cloth allows pleats to be folded to augment and give a dimensionality not present in a flat surface; and the translucent quality adds a unique intricacy to the geometric patterns. When lines in a pattern are folded as pleats, the resulting shapes formed by the pleats become part of the artistic expression of the material. The possibilities for using Shadowfolds in design are limitless. Some applications take advantage of light shining through the fabric, others show the richness of the folds that have a depth all their own. In addition to explaining the three very simple steps of the technique, the authors show how even novice folders can create breathtaking works of textile art, as well as fashion-forward clothes, accessories and home furnishings incorporating these three-dimensional embellishments. They also include a section of patterns, and fabric and craft resources. |
